The University Grants Commission (UGC) on July 04, 2019, has issued a letter requesting all the institutions to organize series of discussions on draft National Education Policy (NEP), 2019, followed by widespread dissemination of outcomes in different media platforms. The draft Policy is developed by a committee chaired by K.Kasturirangan to meet the changing dynamics of the population’s requirement with regards to quality education, innovation and research. The Policy is founded on the guiding goals of Access, Equity, Quality, Affordability and Accountability. The public comments or suggestions are invited from the general public till July 31, 2019. This document is of immense importance for decades to come and will have long implications on Indian education system. It is desired that all higher education institutions must participate actively and contribute in the final making of the country’s first education policy in the twenty first century.
Thus indulgence of academic fraternity in insightful discussions and highlighting major recommendations for evoking widespread attention and awareness through various modes on the proposed reforms is solicited.
